Witchcraft: Muddy Creek

A Witchcraft game set in the modern era.

If Witchcraft: Muddy Creek were a movie, it would be rated R for adult situations and themes, language, and scenes of violence. Individual stories or scenes may be considered NC-17.

Muddy Creek is an Appalachian coal mining town in southwestern Virginia, population approximately 20,000. It was the sight of a minor skirmish during the Civil War and has a monument erected to commemorate a Confederate victory there. Both railroad and bus come through the town, but few people seem to move to Muddy Creek and even fewer residents ever leave. After all, it has everything a community could want: plentiful jobs, a university, a modern hospital, and more.

But Muddy Creek also has a darker side. For a community its size, the town has always had an unusually high death rate. And more than a few people have disappeared under mysterious circumstances over the town's 300 year history. The recent appearence of dead dogs throughout Muddy Creek, some of them mutilated in unspeakable ways, has caused a stir, and even the editorial staff at the Muddy Creek Daily, who are usually tight-lipped about the queer going's on in their community, have started to speculate on the subject of the town's blighted history.

The PCs are not natives of Muddy Creek; instead, they arrive during the first week of October. Some of them might be drawn to the negative energy that seems to be growing in the place. Others might just be drifters who wandered through town but decide to stay and investigate this peculiar place. As they band together and hunt for clues, they slowly begin to piece together a sinister story that goes all the way back to the town's founding. And, they will discover, the dark pact that brought it into being is about to bear fruit. The game will expire on October 31st (game time) regardless of how far the PCs get in their investigation. Failure, however, has dire consequences.
